Best TMS for small freight brokers in 2026

Four TMS options a small US brokerage is likely to consider, compared on price, setup, contract and fraud protection.

We make FreightSafe, so read this as a vendor's comparison. Every competitor price is copied from that vendor's own pricing page on November 4, 2026, with a link, and we list what FreightSafe does not do.

What a small brokerage needs from a TMS

  • Stops a fake or uninsured carrier before the load moves, not after.
  • Makes the rate confirmation, BOL and invoice for you, with your name and MC on them.
  • Shows who owes you, who you owe, and what each load really made.
  • Prices a small team fairly: no big setup fee, no long contract.
  • Lets dispatchers, accounting and agents each see only their part.

Questions

What is the cheapest TMS for a small freight brokerage?

Of the four compared here, for a 3-person team: FreightSafe $199 (Starter, up to 3 users); AscendTMS $207 (Basic, 3 × $69); Descartes Aljex $699 (Essential, 5 users) plus setup fee; Rose Rocket From $2,080. These are published monthly list prices as of November 4, 2026.

Does a small brokerage need a TMS?

Once you book more than a few loads a week, spreadsheets start to cost money: late invoices, carriers paid before proof of delivery, and no record of who checked which carrier. A TMS keeps loads, paperwork and money in one place.

What should a TMS do about carrier fraud?

Check every carrier against its federal record before dispatch: active authority, insurance on file, and signs of identity fraud such as a shared phone or address. FreightSafe does this on every load and locks the load if the insurance does not match.

Is FreightSafe right for every brokerage?

No. FreightSafe does not yet offer load board posting, GPS tracking, EDI or QuickBooks sync. If you need those built in today, one of the other systems may suit you better.
